Thanks for all the information. I forgot to take a few pics now that it's cleaned up. I fully disassembled it, washed and polished everything. As it is, there was just too much rust to get it all off. Still, it looks a lot nicer than it did when I got it.

I have to agree that for $150, there are other drums I would rather have, like an Acrolite. The music store is asking $200 for the Tama drum, and it's not a kingbeat. That seems overpriced to me, so I think I'm going to just keep my snare for now, and keep looking.

It' supposed to be an entry-level drum, but that doesn't really mean it's worthless. For $15, it's very good - perhaps it won't fetch $150, but when you decide to sell it, it will probably get you more than what you paid for it. Now the other one... Tama snares often go for more than $200, depending on the model and its features. It's up to you to decide what you sell/trade and for what price. That said, it's certain that you'll find what you want in time.

Given a choice between a Tama Kingbeat (which was a lookalike Dyna-Sonic, and sold as such with a import rogers badge) at 200. and a REAL Rogers COB Dyna-Sonic for 300. The Tama would end up on the scrapheap. Seriously, there are better drums to buy for a few pennies more than crap drums for way too much money.

When you say "Kingbeat", you're not referring to the pictured drum, are you? I'm guessing you mean the Rogers R380 with the same Kingbeat mechanism? If so, yeah, the R380 can't hold a candle to a Dynasonic!

That exact drum. Dyna-Sonic would win any day. Not saying a genuine kingbeat is a bad drum, just that with the money that close..... why take it?

I guess it really comes down to preference, as there are major differences between the two. The Kingbeat uses a nice SEAMLESS steel shell, die-cast hoops and a parallel-action strainer. I love my Kingbeat and my COB Dynasonic! A little FYI; the Tama lugs use the same lug spacing as the Rogers lug... 1-15/16". Coincidence?

But, since we're talking $$$, then, yes, the Dynasonic wins in resale value alone! The Dynasonic "mystique" alone is worth a few hundred $$$!

I put a new Remo Coated Powerstroke 3 head on and it sounds MUCH better. It has a lot less ring and sounds more controlled. I think I'm going to keep it and use it with my Tama Imperialstars. Seems like it would pair up well with them.

Vercus(sp) I use Remo Fibre-Skins to reduce the ring on COS snares.
