Nothing of big quality. I think material differs by series, but the drums I bought are made of plywood of oak and something.

Nice rehab of that kit.

Actually, do not undercut those shells...if THOSE are Amati shells, they look like some good wood...maybe birch or maple.... not cheap stuff....

I do wish that the renovator DIDN'T paint the interior of the shells, though...would have been much nicer to have used tung oil over the wood if he wanted a nice dense surface....it would have looked more vintage, too.....oh, well...

I found on another place, that Amati drums were made from birch! And in the earlier years lugs were copy of older Premier or John Grey(also british brand)lugs.

Look what I found.Pretty nice looking snare?

Dule: That looks freakin' sweet!

Jaye: He says he painted it because of better resonation. Of course, that was more renovation than reconstruction.

About the wood... I don't know what you've heard but the set I have is made of oak. Older ones MAY be better, because older socialistic products were better than the ones from 70s and 80s, but I wouldn't be so sure.

And if you want some Amati to feel them yourself, you can get them for, like, 290 dollars, or less, even with cymbals, if you're lucky. I bought those for school for 235 bucks.

Probably not too high, but they're hard to get...

I'll look at some auctions, but can't promise anything.

I dunno...I don't live there...but an 18" bass drum anyhwere is valuable...especially if it is a birch shell.

Amati, I have to say....aside from their cymbals, they made good quality stuff. I know their saxes are very good quality, at least up until the '80's or so.

I like that snare drum, too. Spiffy Walking
