Zildjian 18" ride

An 18" at 2041g would probably be a PING. But I can't see a G fits in what is left of that last letter. The vertical portion on the left seems too straight for a G. But I haven't looked long enough to find a 90s one to compare. The other possibility is some sort of marching or orchestral. I don't really know what model ink those had on them back in the 90s at all.

I've been trying to find my info I've stashed on what year the solid Zildjian ink was added to the top, and what year the small Avedis was added to that. I can't remember these sorts of things off the top of my head. But so far I seem to have misplaced the years in my database of Zildjian facts. Still looking.

The only cymbal models which spring to mind that have the model ink facing the other way (so you have to turn the cymbal around the see them) are EAKs (Early American Ks) and since yours is clearly not one of those I'm not sure what OddBall might have spotted. Maybe you could give us a link to a pic OddBall?

Just because I don't know about other reversed model ink cymbals doesn't mean they aren't around. I've never payed much attention to Zildjian cymbals with ink on. I only recently started collecting up a bit of info. And I know nothing about their B8 or B12 offerings. Only the B20 ones.

Found. I really need to tidy up my notes in my database for this area.

Revised dates for your cymbal are 1983 to 1993.

1983 (solid ink on top by then is generally agreed)

1993 (the Avedis ink went on -- I'm not sure of the strength of evidence for this)

1994 (laser serial numbers appear)

From gSonor

To me it looks like there was probably a very faint stamp directly under that ink and someone ground it off. I had an early 90's A that was the same way, they put the ride and size practically over the stamp and it was so lightly pressed in it could barely be noticed. Why someone would do this to the cymbal is unknown? My guess is early 90's sizzle.Gary

Why would anyone grind off an ink stamp? Most cymbal cleaners would remove it.

Thinking laterally, I decided to look on ePrey for BAND:

The right weight (2150g) and not grinder modified. But I can't read the ink remaining in the vital place.

Hey BosLover, I was referring to the pressed into the cymbal stamp not the ink. I'm just speculating I don't know for sure why someone would grind that particular spot???

The photo you showed with what looks like grinding seems to be partially obscuring an ink stamp. Am I looking at the wrong photo?

Why I eschew use of the term "stamp" unqualified with either "pressed in die stamp" or "ink stamp"...it only takes a few more characters guys.

gSonor owned a cymbal where the ink stamp was put directly over the pressed in die stamp.

gSonor's cymbal was from the early 90s production era.

Robyn64 (the OP) posted a query (with two photos) about an 18" cymbal which also seems to be from the early 90s production era (or perhaps later 80s but same era).

Robyn64's photo shows only the partial remains of the model designation in ink which has been damaged by some serious metal removal.

I believe that is a summary of the facts so far...

Sorry. Wasn't paying enough attention and got confused over who was saying what.

Thanks for clearing that up zenstat. Being a hillbilly from Ohio I'm not the best with the English language!
