Mahogany Duroplastic wrap was available at least until 1978 based on the catalog. Maybe even a year or two later.

MrMahoganyDuroplastic - Your kit is in awesome condition. You're lucky to have the Royal Ace matching snare too. Be careful with the wrap. Due to the age, I think it can be very brittle and could easily crack. A member recently had a 16x16 Mahogany Duro floor tom shipped across the US during the Polar Vortex and the extreme cold temperatures split the wrap all over one side of the shell. He was going to try an repair it, as best as possible.

My son has a matching two piece (12" tom/20" bass) and a Mahogany Duro Olympic by Premier 6.5x14 snare. He used it at his latest HS Jazz band performance and it sounded great. That bass drum is a cannon (EMAD2 batter and FiberSkin reso)! Looking to add a 16x16 floor tom soon, but I need to sell some drums first. ;)

I think so, he had the 4" piccolo snare on his though, from what I can make out the royal ace came out in '60, the wrap in '61, the bass drum mufflers were discontinued in '65 and the bass drum hoop colour changed from silver to black in '66. so this particular kit should be from anywhere between around '61-'65. unfortunately i'll never know for sure, its a bit of a mine field trying to date these things with lack of serial numbers etc, thanks

I was lucky all round, the kit was used in a pub for jam sessions until a friend of mine bought it, he then sold it to another friend, who set it up but only used it to hang clothes from! I paid £150 for it in 2004, it was my first kit (late starter lol) I gave it quite a lot of abuse until I joined a band and got a stage custom. luckily I stored this at my parents house. I always liked the sound and knew it was old. on doing research I thought I'd better do a little resto on it, I stripped everything down polished and cleaned, new heads all round (pre int) and this is the result. I have sold my Yamaha kit and gone back to these. I don't thik i'll ever sell them and i'll certainly take more care of them this time round. thanks
