Hi everyone!Just saw this one on a craigslist: a 'newsound' deluxe brass snare drum. All I can find about new sound is that is was a cheapo Taiwanese drum company, who made copies of Tama and pearl. However, this snare does not look 'cheap' to me, it even looks like higher-end brass snares (bell brass?). What do you guys think?
Hi, koene!
At first glance, the snare seems to be a pretty and well-made instrument. There will be elitists here who maintain that just because a drum was made in China (or in some cases, Japan), it is just a cheap piece of garbage, hardly worth the effort of tuning it. B.S.!!! With proper heads and time spent tweaking the tuning, you could have a very good snare. I have a brass Royce (Basix), made in China, designed by German engineers and distributed though Northbrook, Il., U.S.A. It is one of the nicest snares I own! Sure I changed heads and spent time on it but, the effort was certainly worth it! You may get lucky with this one. On the other hand, it may not even be perfectly in-the-round with a ragged metal bearing edge. The t-rods may not even fit the lugs snuggly. It's in the draw,my friend. Too bad you couldn't see the drum before you buy. Think about it, sir. Best of luck!
