My vintage Paiste set up

Loading...

Hi there - here's a pic of my current set up (may look a little strange with the low hat and primary crash, but my right arm is currently in a sling following a shoulder operation, so i am playing left hand only at the moment:DW)

The cymbals are:

1. 1978 2002 heavy hats (they were previously owned by Barry van Zyl, drummer for Johnny Clegg / Jaluka / Savuka - big stars in Africa and parts of Europe - not sure about the States. Now a Zildjiian endorsee);

2. re-issue 18" Giant Beat Multi;

3. 1974 22" 602 Medium Ride;

4. 1974 20" 602 Thin Crash;

5. 1977 22" 2002 China Type

Have a great day!!

Cheers

Erik

Thank you! The heavy hats are actually not heavy at all - i have never weighed the hats - i should. They are truly versatile - warm and crisp with a dark edge - maybe that's the patina build up over the years. As strange as it may sound, i can actually compare their sound to that of a set of 14" Dark Energy hats that i have. I am sure the ageing has a lot to do with it though.

I know what you mean. My fave hats for 30+ years are a set of 602 heavys. Got them because Ndugu and Porcaro owned sets at some stage. 1030 and 1040 but they play lighter than that. Heaven on a stick. Also not strange than the 2002's sound slightly DE. Those Paiste hobbits - they know how to shape a pair of hats ;)

Black label,

That's a killer set-up you have, would love to give those a whirl.

Hey trout,

I recently picked up a 15" 602 (1127g) that I'm using with a 505 SE bottom. I would love to find a match for the 602, but they sound pretty sweet to me right now.
