It's not the number of lugs that matters, it's the ratio (7"x14") that seems to make for great sounding drums. Wether you use 8 or 16 lugs is a style decision. The 'size' of the drum matters more in terms of sound. I'll try to track down the paper I read on how depth affects the sound of a drum. It's been awhile, but I'll look for it. In terms of sound, just think Radio King! The guys who have studied how vibrations travel through drum shells say that for snares, the 7"x14" size is like a golden ratio to use for building it. If I can track it down, I'll post it up for you to read. Lots of technical mumbo-jumbo, but readable and understandable by a layman. Good info!

Probably not one that you could hear! You'd need an oscilloscope to 'see' the difference, but I don't think anybody would be able to hear a difference.

Well considering that I am putting veneer on the shell, that will affect the sound anyway.

Didn't get much done, last few days I have been out in the field working. I hope to either paint or spray clear to the interior's. Then it will be a while before I make up my mind on what veneer to get.

I am close to finishing the insides of the shells but I am wondering if I should leave them bare. Anyone care to advise me here.

I think I have decided on Zebra wood veneer. Grain running edge to edge. But not 100% on that. I love mahogany, like the one I did for John also, just thinking outside the norm here.

Zebra wood veneer will look amazing if it's anywhere as nice as the last Roger's kit you did. Why not use Ludwig 5/16" curved spurs instead of new since they hold really well, especially with a front BD spur bracket. My Camco's have basically the same design and it holds a 24" from moving.
