This is my favorite cymbal...it once belonged to Elvin Jones...its a pre-split 19" Istanbul crash ride inscribed under the bell.

HI if you look at the signatures on the bottom you will see AGOP and MEHMET who were Senior Artisans at the Turkish Zildjian factory and continued making K Zildjian cymbals in Turkey under their new brand name "Istanbul" after Zildjian moved to USA.... pre - split means this cymbal was made before Agop and Mehmet gave each other their walking papers ...nowadays you will see AGOP ISTANBUL cymbals or MEHMET ISTANBUL cymbals for sale but this cymbal was made for before the divorce (-: I have soundfiles in my dropbox folder but I don't know how to get them here ?

This 20" K also belonged to Elvin. It is a thin super- dry classic jazz sounding ride but the 19" Istanbul sounds much more like the cymbals I have heard him use the 3 or 4 times I saw him live and is a more versatile cymbal which would sound great in any musical style and is a desert island cymbal

Cymbalholic I tried sending a wav file but it was too big ...then I tried converting it to a zip file ..still no good ....I have a zoom h2 that can record in different formats.......now where did I put the damn manual....so If anybody wants to hear my pair of Elvin's cymbals they can email me at [email]STEVEMER@SHAW.CA[/email] and I will forward a zip file
