Well, here we go again. I obtained some 60's shells last summer and they have been sitting around a lot. So Its time to get off my rear and get these going.
The original plan was to remove the wraps, plug holes paint inside white and wrap with a veneer. The interior's of the drums are cleaning up nice so I might go with a clear lacquer or even a tinted lacquer for the interior's. Still going with veneer but have not decided which species to do it in yet. I will be making the bass drum virgin by plugging all necessary holes but instead of using the proper era spurs I want to use a newer fold up spurs that are more heavy duty as this kit will be my gigging kit. I have one keystone badge that came on the bass drum but will be looking for 3 others for the toms. The Snare drum shell I have is from the 70's, it is a marcher that will be cut down. So I think a b/o badge will be appropriate for that one.
I have also decided to make a go at re-working all of the edges. They are all the same, 45 degree inside with a 3/16" round over from the outside. Most of the edges are fine but Im going to do them all anyway.
This will be a fun project for me but its going to take a long time due to the amount of jobs I have going. I was not going to do this thread until someone (a good friend here on VDF) sort of requested that I do it.
