Waiting on parts by Poppy

Hello guys,

My name is poppy,

My grand kids call me Poppy, in case your wondering. I love drums! I love restoring drums! I love learning about drums, and restoring drums. This forum has been a life saver to me. The forum gives me something to do while I’m “WAITING”! I start restoring something and after surveying the situation, I see several things I need to replace. Since it’s a vintage kit I cant just buy a brand new part. No, I have to find one on here or eBay. Wherever I do find it it’s gonna involve “WAITING” so I get on the forum and pass the time, because I am a drum addict. Sometimes I get a lull when nothing has come in and I get anxious and start threatening the guy on eBay for my rims I paid for 3 weeks ago. Lol But find myself “WAITING” again, and I forum and finally something comes in. Dammitt! These lugs look worse than the ones I already have! I find some more and buy them and I am “WAITING” for them again. Meanwhile, I have ordered some wrap from 2 different prominent companies. I am anxiously “WAITING” on them. I see I need a few tension rods for my acro, well the 2 toms I bought with the lugs I need, have nice t rods on them so I’m “WAITING” X 2 on those. The rims for the acro came in today. FINALLY!, I had em on by 6pm. They were very nice and I gave the guy good feedback, because the rims were worth “WAITING” for. I have a 68 sky blue pearl 5 piece kit “WAITING” on me to clean and polish it. I’m just “WAITING” to finish a few small projects first. Restoring anything vintage, is a very long process. My customers are restoring vintage automobiles. It, sometimes takes years to totally restore a vintage vehicle. Some vintage cars have everything available reproduction, but the less popular, or more rare, do not. I search for these parts for a living. “WAITING” is a part of restoring anything truly vintage. Sometimes I’m as anxious as a kid on Christmas morning to get my project finished, but, I am always “WAITING!“ Be patient fellow forum members, because the end result of patiently waiting and have the burning desire to see the restored drum or kit is priceless!

Very well said Poppy. The cool thing is that as I'm getting older I find that I am getting more patient and less herky jerky. I can so see a finished product in my mind and I want to get there but I know to get to that perfect look that patience is a must. Another thing that I've learned over the years working on different things, when you're tired....STOP and come back to it. I'm dreaming about polishing lugs at night...but I know not to get in a hurry or the one that I mess up will cause me to have to WAIT....LOL!!

Yes, this is one of my regular statements when people email about specific parts.

Vintage Drums = Patience

The last part took me two years to find!

I know this post was directed towards my last post about the muffler for the RB Gretsch I'm working on, but......the thing is it was a NEW Gretsch part that I bought since it is the same as the vintage ones. Vintage parts for restorations, this I can understand the wait and the hunt, if you will. New parts, or even reproduction ones, should not have to have a long wait for. Especially in this day and age of the internet and overnite shipping and the like. Patience may be a virtue, but a month for a new part is just not acceptable. Especially when the third attempt with this particular supplier/retailer was just as messed up as my very first transaction with them a year ago. They are supposed to be a professional outfit, but with this many mistakes, I'm starting to wonder. When I used to sell on ebay, I listed the items acurately and shipped them as soon as the fund cleared. I had them ready to go the day the auction started, not ended. In other words, I had my act together. It was a hobby, but I treated it as a professional business. Is it too much to ask the same of an real business?

You inspired me to post this LD, and I promise i mean no disrespect towards you. You are one of my favorite in here. Im sure you wont order from those guys again, unless they are the only on that has something. I have dozens of suppliers at my shop. I order mostly from a few different ones. I keep a mental record of the ones that screw up the most. They all screw up eventually. We have all but finished totally restoring the interior of a 1980 Trans am. I have orderd the same part 3 times. The brand new , reproduction, left armrest/door pull broke the first time we closed the door. Ordered another one and they didnt wanna ship it till i sent the pos one back. The second one did the same thing. broke. So i reordered again and got a OEM one for $100 more, and it finally came and is good to go, except, now the right broke. Reordered it yesterday. It's a $3,800 job. The guy dont want to pick it up until the new armrest is replaced. )*%^$@%$^&*!!!!!!! I need that money in the bank! Next time ill order it from someone else for sure! I get tickled at you and myself about these things. I reorder the same thing from the same company, expecting different results!, What? am I crazy?

Yes I am! I am more anxious to get my red sparkle wrap for my marching snare from precision, than I am for that dam armrest. I have always wanted some red sparkle drums. Ever' since i was a kid.

Well....you won't have any issues with precision, I've dealt with them many times in the past and have NEVER had any problems.

They are the only company that would send me cards with all thier drum wraps on it. I saw a prescion drum sample card on ebay for sale and emailed them to see if the card was current and he said they give the cards for free.

That ment a lot to me.
