Ludwig-dude!...Here's a couple of my 1955 WFL Buddy Rich Super Classic with chrome hardware and in WMP of course as that was BR's color! This drum is in incredible condition and plays/sounds fabulous. Quite articulate for a 3 ply w/rings. When the market was good, this drum would bring $475.00 AND UP easily. In today's market, yeah... not as much, unless your buyer were sitting and waiting for that exact drum, and with some disposable cash in his pocket. So with that said, as mentioned prior, $175.00 was indeed an excellent buy for that drum mcjnic!Value is a hard thing to figure... the hardware is nickel... but still, the drum appears to be in pretty nice condition. I would say, with the drum all detailed/polished... $300.00. This isn't meant to take anything away from Ludwig-dude's assessment, just my opinion. Either way, at $175.00... an excellent buy!!Tommyp

You might be closer, Tommy, than I was in my estimation. No worries. I agree that he did very well! A good use of rouge compound and a buffer wheel would make that nickel shine as good as chrome too!

Buffing wheels scare me, they can actually remove plating, no ?

Not if you go easy and use the correct grit rouge compound......paying attention and using care is the key.

Got the snare this eve. It's got GREAT edges and bed. Hardware is nice. It should clean up well.

The wrap ... DOES hide a bit of repaired damage behind the throwoff. The guy lied, but I honestly don't care. That's for the ethical mojo banza bat to bite his third eye for the lie.

So, the drum has been repaired (long ago) and it was done fairly well. Everything else seems to be sweet.

The mystery badge is Ludwig Pre-serial Number Keystone Badge 1960-1963.

The Drum is dated Feb 21 1963. It's got a red felt damper.

I've already yanked it apart and started the goofy drum geek fondle. The wrap is damaged and I'm not sure if I should keep it or pull it. I'll take voters on this call. I have the Gold Sparkle snare wrap in my closet if I decide to go that way.

This should be a fun one to work on. Looking forward to whacking day.

By the way, Luddyduddy won the frozen turkey. Nice call on the ID. You hit this one smack dab on the head. Impressive.

Awwwww yeaaahhh wack all the snares.....LoLoLoLo

Hey I try....I do know my WFL-current ludwig.....pre WFL I'm a little shakey on......

sounds like a good project despite the non-discloseure. My next project is either gonna be a WWII era WFL, or a Rolling Bomber set, or if I can afford it those WWII Gretschs in the other post here....if those don't materialize, then maybe a replica of the Last Waltz set used in the film studio scenes....wood hoops and all! Gotta get my Levon on....

Michael that is an awesome snare indeed! Good score!

I'd leave that wrap on as long as you can stand to, I think it looks great.

Of course, now you'll have to build a kit around that drum. . .

Hmmmmm isn't that a little like having the keyfob and restoring a car around it? LOL!

Actually, I have two kits for this snare...depending on the wrap. I have the gold sparkle wrap for it just in case it needs to be replaced. That would fit my current restoration kit. I also could leave it blue sparkle to go with my "other" current restoration of a small jazzer (basically, a downbeat) that will be blue sparkle. So, it's not too far out to build the kit around this thing. I've got a 6 lugger in red sparkle just in case this one pleads for the gold. I'll leave that one red, though. It's almost perfect. Won't touch it if it ain't broke. That's my motto. Wait. No it isn't. My motto is "hey be nice and flush twice". oooooo......scatological humor. sorry.
