Just got this brushed aluminium Premier Hi-Fi in the post today and gave it a clean. It appears they came with triple flange hoops in the 70s. The BDP is an early 60s one I think.
Has anyone had problems with this model strainer? I haven't played properly with it yet but it doesn't seem to be too secure in the engaged position whereas the BDP has a definite click into place. I have a spare strainer somewhere if this one is a problem but just wondered if it was common.
Do you have the bottom head tightened up tight? Sometimes that helps...or...a shot of oil too can help..

yeah I know he didn't sell it first time up at $99 but he wasn't offering international shipping. I agreed to pay a bit more if he shipped it. I thought it was still a very fair price for a nice 10 lug Alu snare, and the extra $$ is the price we pay for living down here:-) The shell is in great cosmetic condition too.
The strainer just doesn't have that reassuring click into place and is real easy to disengage. The bottom head is pretty tight too. I'll take it to rehearsal tonight and see how it goes.
Put the name Ludwig on the side of the drum...and it goes from $139 to $299...strange.....
True. I love my Supras and Acros but I've been recording with my Premier 35 lately and it's every bit as good. I reckon this Hi-Fi is going to be really good too. I actually bought the Hi-Fi as it will go nicely with my 202 kit. It came with a 2000 but it's heavily pitted and I've never got it to sound right for me.

My Prem Hi-Fi 'Restoring'/ Cleaning was a really tough one but now I'm done and it looks and (sounds!) great again.
Put on Die Cast Hoops, new Snares, a Remo CS w/ Dot since it's supposed to be a 'fatback' Rock Snare.

you're most welcome Lars. Can't wait to see the finished snare. My one came with TF hoops and apparently that's correct for the USA market, which is where my drum came from. I expected it to sound similar to my Premier 35 (10 lug, Alu etc) but it's completely different. More focused and tight. It's growing on me, which is good because I committed to selling my 35 to a friend. I think I may miss it but it's remarkably similar to my Supra so I guess that base is coveredCooked Egg
Ooh! Sweetness drips of those like coffee out of my mustache! I had an opportunity to whack on a Hi Fi once. It was impressive! Right now I'm in love with my Super Ten, but I may have to look one of those up someday.
Yes, I'm a fickle snare guy... that's why one should always own more snares than one does socks.
I agree that that strainer lacks the affirming snap when it reaches its destination, but I didn't have any trouble with the one I had backing off or disengaging. Still, it's always a possibility on that style of strainer, that is, not specifically this model from Premier.
