Cleaning Drum Shells

Loading...

What do you recommed to clean brass drum shells?

Ive got some "Crazy Johns Drum and Hardware cleaner/polish" (dont know if you get that in the states)

I am pretty sure it will be fine for the outside, but will this be ok for the inside of the shell?

Any tips/advice on good products would be much appriciated.

From GoneDrumming

I use 0000 super fine steel wool for the inside.

Is that ok? The reason i ask is because i dont want to use anything too abrasive on the inside of the shell.

What products do you guys normally use to clean the inside of a metal shell?

Exactly what is the drum and when you say brass it is a brass shell with chrome or a brass finish?

How bad is the shell?

I would like to see what we are talking about prior to making any recommendations. Plus the best person to ask is Mike C. but he will

probably want to see a photo as well.

I wouldn't use Steel Wool. Even 0000 can leave scratches.

If it's COB, use a chrome polish.

If it's just brass, use a brass cleaner - cymbal cleaner, or the like. Home made versions are ketchup and a solution of dissolved salt in vinegar mixed with enough flour to make a paste.

Use either of them with a soft, non-abrasive cloth.

The cleaner you have should be fine, but I would check with the manufacturer to make sure it is safe for brass.
