An all-time new low on EBAY

Loading...

Like many of you - I watch for Radio Kings on EBay. Often, I see someone who says "I don't know much about these but here is a vintage radio king." Well, being the educator I am, I like to try and give them a few grains of info. Several times I found a guy selling an RK and did not know what he had, so I told him. More often, I see student RKs or bastardized RKs and the people are asking big bucks for them. They usually don't get them. But the other day I saw one that did not make sense to me. I took out my Slingerland Book.

this is the drum:(Photos Attached)

I saw the badge, which did not correspond to the finish or the lower rim. The lower rim is the one used on earlier Slingerlands AND 1950's student RKs.

So, trying to help, I emailed the guy. What I found out is this:

1. The badge came from a Slingerland marching snare drum

2. The bevertail lugs were from the 1930's (probably bought on line).

3. But the BIGGIE - the real amazing BS - the shell is only a year old - it is probably a Vaughncraft!

This guy put togetheer a drum from parts, with a new shell and is trying to pass it off as an RK!!!! What is wrong with this world???

Well...it REALLY doesn't look RIGHT at all, so I would guess that most folks with some familiarity would see through it.

The problem becomes, those who haven't done their homework, which is exactly who the guy is preying upon.

Look at his semantics closely...he is actually allowing himself wiggle-room to say "I never said it was an original vintage snare drum".....

Can this be reported as a fraudulent item (not auction, but item ?) ?

Here is the BIG problem with eFlay no longer allowing the bidders list ID's to be available.

I have, on a few occasions, come across phony vintage drums and first I contact the seller (seller may really have made an honest mistake); if they add a description revision or post a reply to my Q, then great. If NOT, I was also then able to contact the bidders on the bid list and alert them to the fact that the item is NOT what it is described to be.

But you cannot do that any longer, since complete ID's are kept private now....and the ability to contact the bidders has been nixed....

You are a man after my own heart - I have done the same thing. As a matter of fact, I once bought a portable MIDI keyboard - the roll-up kind, only to find out that the "MIDI out" was not a MIDI connector!! I emailed the seller who said, basically "too bad." So, I went to her site every day, and emailed her bidders. I did this fora bout a couple weeks, then gave up. I een listed the one I had purchased as an auction. I gave it a ridiculous reserve, like $2000, and then, in the discription told peoiple exactly what it was -a Chinese scam! After a week, EBay took it down!

Well, I may report this guy, but I don' think he will get a buyer. If he doesn't on EBay, he will find a sucker somewhere.

You can say that but, really, it is beyond caveat emptor.....this is a flat-out misrepresentation and an intentional lie.

I agree.......but......if you don't do your homework and know what you are looking at, then you deserve to get taken. But thats why we are here, right?

If it doesn't look right or sounds too good to be true it probably is....right?

Nah...just look at the "What deals have you gotten?" thread! Cool Dude

He says in the first line of his ad that the auction is for a Slingerland Radio King cloud badge snare...how is that affording him some wiggle room?

Nobody deserves to get taken simply for the fact they may not have brushed up their knowledge on something (well, almost nobody....). It's OK to expect a modicum of truth and courtesy....
