What's this one worth?

The stamp starts at 1 3/4 inches in from the edgestamp is located at 12 o'clock in overhead picture of top of cymbali don't see any ink on it, but it's got a lot of club dirt on it.

Its an 18 so I'm thinking $125-175. Maybe more if its thin and has a "to die for" sound, $200 tops. I personally haven't seen a lot of thin 18" '50s on the market, but I just picked up an 18" thin early '50's trans stamp for $250. I think I over paid, but it sounded great!

That's a great exposition of your thinking process. Thanks Mark. It illustrates nicely that sound trumps all these other attributes which we may rely on when we can't hold a cymbal in our hands to evaluate it.

And my meagre data agrees with the price range, although I don't formally collect price data on these as I do with my Paiste research.

I have an 18" Trans Stamp at around 1560g and that cost me $155.

You'll have to check with Mark (Boslover) about why he insists on a picture, but I suspect he doesn't know you therefore doesn't trust you to be able to pick the era of a stamp properly.

As usual you are 100% correct. It wouldn't be the first time someone said they had "A" but really had "B". A picture, as they say, is worth a thousand words.

I have 2 20" trans stamps that both cost under $200 although I think I could sell either of them for much more. Thin 18" trans stamps seem harder to come by so when I found one that really sounded good (even though it had been cleaned) I bit the bullet and overpaid a bit.

That's towards medium wight for an 18". I have a thin Bos Masters 19: crash/ride which weighs at around 1360 grams and a Bos 18" very thin crash which weighs 1200+ grams.

Not sure which ones you are referring to. If you mean the 18" and 20" trans stamps then yes they are from the early '50s. If you are referring to my Bos cymbals, they are Bosphorus, not Zildjian (thus my handle). They are less than 10 years old. I mentioned them only as a weight comparison.

Actually, I got one thing wrong. My original brief illustrated essay on telling 50s from 70s isn't gone. It's still here:

http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=42035

And I have little excuse for not checking. Even the searching has been restored to good health now that we have gone to a stable vB3 version (as opposed to vB5 which belonged in a stable ;) ). Yippee. But I still do have an amended version underway.
