To my knowledge, all the Gretsch diamond plates were designed to accept standard rods of the time, which were 3/8", or 9.5mm. I'm not aware of brackets designed for 10.5mm rods, but maybe others can shed some light on this.

Actually, the rod measures larger than 10.5 mm. I own two of these Gretsch L-Arms and they're both the same size. To the Gretsch experts out there - did the company re-issue more heavily duty versions of the L-Arm along with a Diamond Plate to accommodate it?

The Diamond Plate on the right is the standard sized version, and the one on the left is the part I need with the larger hole.

A picture is always worth 1000 words! Thanks for posting them. My gut tells me the larger one is a newer design. I'm not really up on all things "Gretsch", but others may have the answer.

I finally received the information I needed from John Sheridan, co-author of the new "The Gretsch Drum Book." John writes that, "In answer to your query regarding newer Gretsch Cymbal-Arms, 2 new versions have been available since 2010 & 2011: GS-VBDCH127 (12.7mm) came out in 2010, followed by GS-VBDCH103 (10.3mm) in 2011. They are both still available. The 12.7mm type fits either the G9020 Techware-style bracket or the newer G9025 hinge-style bracket. The 10.3mm type fits any version of the G4820 Diamond bracket. As you have the new Gretsch Drum Book, you'll find all this illustrated on page 224.

By the early '70s, Gretsch temporarily went to a 7/16" diameter floor tom leg (versus the previous & subsequent 3/8" diameter) & milled out period 4820 brackets to accommodate the thicker legs. So the bracket you got from eBay is actually a floor tom leg bracket from this era. (These larger-holed 4820s were also employed as rack tom brackets, as Gretsch had modified their rail consolettes to feature 7/16" L-rods rather than 3/8" Lip Extension Rods; see page 234.) You'll find a similar side-by-side comparison (to your 3rd j-peg) & explanation on page 240 of the new Gretsch book."

So, it appears that what you have is a milled-out bracket, correct? If so, I had a feeling that's what it might be. I spent some time doing an internet search for this bracket and turned up nothing. The newer brackets, as mentioned, don't look like this. Looks like you'd have to obtain a vintage bracket (easy enough to find) and have it milled out at a metal shop.

are you looking for the bracket that was used in the 70s? I had a floor tom from the early 70s with the larger hole. The shell was messed up but i saved all the hardware. Whats the diameter you are looking for?
