problem Zildjian cymbals

Loading...

Hello, I am Paul and I write from Italy.

I found these Cymbals with a drum of the 60s

I ask for help to figure out what year they are and their possible value.

Ride 20" - weight 3,268 Kg (115,28 ounce)

Splash 12" - weight 0,568 Kg (20,04 ounce)

I enclose a photo

Sorry for my English

Thanks

I respectfully disagree with the previous poster -- with those hammering patterns, they are not "Customs", they are indeed the original Zildjian Z line (pre-"Custom"). The splash is a 12" Z splash, and the ride is almost certainly (at that weight) a Z Heavy Power Ride.

The original Z line followed the Impulse line as heavy rock and metal cymbals geared towards louder music (some say in response to the very successful Paiste RUDE line). They were in the product line from 1986 to 1994, when they were replaced by the Z Custom line. The Z Custom line was briefly replaced in 2009 by the Z3 line before the entire line was incorporated into the redesigned A series in 2013.

Original Zs are not easy to find online, possibly because so many of them ended life broken...? In any case, a 20" Z ride in good condition could go for $180-220, a 12" splash for between $50-100. An original Z light power ride is on eBay for $209.99, for basis of comparison.

I agree with yr posting (line/series) / however these cyms aren't really worth the $$ valve posted...these were not desirable..

I will agree, they are certainly a "niche" purchase... very difficult to find anyone selling them anywhere for comparison. In the end, they're worth what someone will pay for them.

They are considered as holy grail, same as Paiste Original RUDE(the one with big RUDE ink logo(no Paiste)and comes from early 80's).

alparrott, you nailed it! Exactly what they are!

The original "K/Z" Hi-Hats were original Z Dyno Beats (1 bottom, usually the hex hammered one paired with a K. top). Those are still sought after today, because the top and bottom Dyno Beats were also reversible. One had the asterisk type hammering as in the Splash above (usually the top) and the other had the hexagon hammering, as in the ride above (usually the bottom-and used as a bottom with the K. top).

I also use 2 original Z splashes as a set of 12" hi-hats. They sound great and are very good all around hats!

To any true rock or metal drummer these are pound for pound (no pun intended ;-) THE most badass cymbals that can be bought!! They are easily worth that, if not more, as the newer customs do not exhibit comparible quality versus the originals (imagine that). For a bebopper they will not only overpower your kit, but likely blow out the whole band with it. To each his own. LOUD AND PROUD!! Yes Sir
