Thanks for the replies guys. The Swivo copy seems to be what I need. Are any of these kits available in Bop sizes? I'd prefer a 12/14/18 configuration.

Stephen, I always found the early 70s Pearl mount worked well. Some said they wouldn't be sturdy enough so I always carried a spare snare stand just in case. Never needed it though and the mount worked well.I think there was a kit in the FS section recently, Apollo maybe?

I gave my son a set of Coronets or Stewart's with this mounting system and it's about as good as late 60's/early 70's gets as far as flexibility except for maybe Sonor.

I think that the fact they still work after years of abuse speaks volumes. The later version that I also pictured is bigger and tougher but if you're not hitting too hard then the smaller hex one will do IMO. I took my blue kit on tour a couple of times without issue, although still had the snare stand as emergency back up.
Stephen, the smaller bass drums are hard to find. 20" seems the most common smaller size.. You could make a kit. I built this one from an old 18" Carlton tenor drum, an MIJ 12" tom and a converted 14" Premier Marching snare as a FT. It's really fun to play in smaller venues. I use a snare stand for the tom though.
FayRay - That is a cool kit. I'd call it the MIJ Jelly Bean (i just learned this term in a Vistalite thread awhile back).
That is a cool kit Andrew. But I couldn't handle the hole in the rack tom with something like that. I can deal with a 20" bass drum, if I can't find an 18.
