Didn't get the Slingy shells sprayed.

Winter is here in the PNW. Won't be able to set up the booth until spring. Want to play the kit until then.

Question? should I apply sanding sealer before the hardware goes back on or wait and do everything at once? Quite a bit of paint layers needed to be removed. Worried that the chemicals from the paint stripper will leach upward. Must be some period of time before the stripper completely evaporates. Sadly a missing piece of information from the directions.

Drums will be in a climate controlled basement at 76 degrees. Very slim chance of anything getting spilled, spit or poured on them.

Thanks in advance!!

I would imagine that once dry/evaporated that there isn't much out-gassing from the stripper. I would think the sealer would 'protect' the wood until you can get to them in the spring. Especially if you get a lot of moisture variation over the winter. I'd seal em and forget em until spring. Jeff (jccabinets) knows wood, hopefully he'll see the thread and comment. Get the final word from a pro.

Too many great drums to list here!

I did see this!

So, you allready stripped off the paint, correct?

Did you clean the shells off with some mineral spirits or damp rag, depending on if the stripper is solvent base or water base.

YOu really keep your house at 76 degrees?

If you did all of the above, I would sand them with some 150 and forget about them until spring.

They will be fine, I have had raw shells sitting in my shop in the summer when the humidity is real high, no issues.

Moisture content in wood is important and you have to try and controll the tempeture and humidity in the shop as best as you can. But to be honest, I am a very small operation and dont have an air conditioned shop (yet) so our lumber get exposed to humidity in the summer. But 30 years of working wood I have had one problem. I built a huge kitchen one summer and it was real hot an humid. Then next winter the door panels had shrunk and revealed an unstained line all the way around them. But this kitchen had a gas fireplace and when I went to look at the problem the fire place was going and it felt like a hundred degrees in there. Well,I told them the panels will grow back once the fireplace is done for the winter, but I touched them up anyway. That was three years ago, have not heard a thing.

Ya, I would not put sealer on them. Why go through the trouble of removing that next spring?

Sorry for the long winded response.

Thank you!

Creighton how did the veneer patch come out for you? I put my 20" tom back together this summer and have been playing it as is ever since. I was going to paint it but decided to wrap it and re-wrap the 13". I'm hoping after the Holidays I can save the $$$ for the wrap.

Thanks guys!

Have most of the paint off. The interiors are a PITA. Oops, basement is 67 degrees.

Great kit Glenn. About ready to get back to "Machine Gun Kelly". I've been playing it. No signs of repairs failing.
