Ludwig B/O Badge Serial Numbers 1400000-1499999 and 2300000-2999999

Loading...

As part of my ongoing research into Ludwig serial numbers, I think I have identified two large gaps in the serial numbers used by Ludwig during the 1970s/1980s. I am asking for the forum's help. If anyone owns or has seen a badge with a serial number in either of these ranges, please let me know. There is a small prize for the first to report one and provide a picture.

Thanks,

Rick

Is there something "speciall" with drums between those serial?

My drums have not serial in that range - but since you perhaps have lot of info about Ludwig serial - you maybe know how this is possible?

I do not think that there is anything special about them. I just cannot seem to find any drums that had serial numbers in these two ranges. I suspect that Ludwig simply failed to use serial numbers from 1400000-1500000 and then again from 2300000-3000000.

I am preparing a Ludwig dating guide that covers 1963-1984 and wanted to make sure that I have my information correct. I don't want to say that there were these two gaps when people actually have examples.

Let me rephrase - I am looking for B/O badge drums in the following ranges:

1400000 to 1500000

2300000 to 3000000

There are many drums between 1500000 and 2300000. There do not seem to be drums in the other two ranges.

Intressting.

I seen several serial timelines for ludwig drums on internet- but it seems they just copy each other. Nice with some reserach behind Clapping Happy2 .

About missing serial- is it same serial for snares as drumsets, or they have different serials?

For the most part, Ludwig used the same serial number sequence on main line snares, sets, and even thrones through the early 1980s. It started at zero in late 1963 and continued until at least 1984. It included multiple different badge styles over that two decade span. There appear to have been gaps (the subject of this thread) in the serial numbers used. Second line drums (i.e.: Standards 1968-73) had their own badges and their own serial number sequences.

Most of my data collection is from before 1985, so I can not comment on what happened after then.

i hope your guide will be in the form of a website. that would be cool.

as for the gaps in numbers, i was thinking that since ludwig delt with many schools, those missing numbers could be on those large school orders.

makes sense. they might have worked on a few school orders in one run, thus a possible reason there's large gaps in the serial numbers.
