Ludwig 60's snare butt question

Loading...

I have a 1960 Supra and it's missing the small bar (and screws) which clamp the snare strings onto the back of the butt.. The butt itself (which screws to the shell) is still there. My question is: I have seen the complete unit for sale on eBay - it has a different Ludwig script than mine. This doesn't matter - I only want the bar and screws. Did these change in dimension? I need to know if I need to get one with the same early script. Thanks for your help - it's much appreciated.

The hole pattern is the same....even up to today's model. Save the $$ and just buy a new one and use the bar and screws from it. No reason to plunk down a ton of $$ on something vintage that only half would be used anyway.

I wanted to post this in case someone else benefits. I swapped out a part from another drum and it fitted all right. But that is not the interesting bit (to me).

This Supra had really bad snare buzz. I was forced to tie the strings through the screw holes (since I was missing the bar) which certainly seemed ok, except for the knot part. However, I would never have thought that clamping the strings, such a minor adjustment, would make such a huge difference. But it did! Which shows me that the engineering in these great old drums was really quite remarkable. It sounds much better, because of a part worth a pittance.
