1966 Ludwig Kit

Loading...

Champagne Sparkle, 13", 16", 20" and a Supraphonic snare. Based from the pictures and description these were covered in the attic and the wrap looks brand new as well as the hardware on these drums.

All shells are stamped in 1966, and the serial numbers are all very close to one another.

Any imput would be appreciated.

It's worth maybe $1200. I wouldn't pay that much though.

I'd offer $900 and see if they take it. That's if they know what they have.

If they are asking less, jump at it!

Well, they are asking $1400 and are convinced that they are worth far more. Someone in Chicago they emailed told them that they should ask at least like $1800, or if they took it to the Chicago Drum show, they could sell them for around $3000! The guy was very nice on the phone, and I didn't feel it to be my place to tell him that he was heavily mis-informed.

I am not looking for another drum kit, but wow it sure is pretty!

$3000 in today's economy? Good luck! $1200 is about average......

Walk away...just walk away. Don't look back. Remember that whole pillar of salt thing. Consider it a trek through a very tiny museum and all will be right with the world.

Sheesh! $3000.00????!!!!! What a dope.

[COLOR="Purple"]Exactly....I mean, some folks get their "values" by looking at online vintage drum stores....which would regularly pricetag even the most basic and common old Luddy or Slingy kit at over $2G...and one in a rarer wrap for around $3G.

...or by having a professional appraisal company put a number on it for insurance value.

Both of those sorta numbers...

...have NOTHING to do with true market value....just the pricetag thrown on by a purveyor who is in no rush to move their kits out the door (hey, maybe SOME idiot will actually BUY it)....or by a business which makes it's rep on giving appraisals which sound good to their client's ears....

$900-1000 would be a very fair offer to make on that kit...if it is really mint, OK, maybe $1100....and quite honestly, in this teetering (global) economy...a seller should be really glad to get that.

Tell the guy what everyone hear has told you(in a nicer way). Tell him about the economy and how this set isn't worth that much. And if he doesn't bite walk away there are many deals out there. You just have to find them. Plus he will lower his price once they don't sell after a week. Good Luck:2Cents:
