New Acquisitions!

Loading...

Here's some (albeit crappy ipod) pics of this week's acquisitions as promised along with some questions. So I grabbed a peacock pearl Stewart kick and 12" tom w/ a Supreme 12" tom, 14" FT and snare in WMP a few days ago with a pile of 70s unbadged MITs also in that deal was a Zildjian 15" hi hat bottom (I'm assuming) that I'm assuming is a Canadian 70's one (there is no Made In USA under the stamp. I'll post that in cymbal section, though).

Then yesterday I grabbed a sparkle blue Bollero kit, to acquire the OBP Ludwig Jazz Fest that was being sold with it (again another thread). This is where the questions start. This Bollero kit has rerings and the kick has three rerings. It has hoop-saver type rims, WFL-style button leg brackets on the floor tom. The kick has a calfskin beater bead and is 21 3/4", not 22". Is this a standard metric pre-international size and will I be able to find heads for it? What would the dating be for this kit. I looked through the Star dating on Ralf's website and it seems these were features on Stars '63/4 models. Thanks for any input!!

Is the Bollero the kit on the left pic? It isn't sharp enough, but to me it seems to have the 'Bolero' badge (one 'L'), with the airvent separate ...

If your badge isn't identical with the one on my website, your blue sparkle kit is definitely a Pearl made set.

Can you, please, make a pic of the mentioned 'WFL-style button leg brackets on the floor tom'. Sorry - I don't understand what you mean with it.

Cheers, Ralf

Hey Ralf!

As you can see it is a Bollero, not Bolero, but has a badge separate from the vent hole. And here is a pic of the floor tom leg bracket in question. Is this it made by Star? What would the year be? Also the kick is smaller than 22 " (21 3/4). Have you seen this on MIJ drums? Danke.

Thanks. Means, that would be the only Star badge without a hole ...

I have strong doubts. We have to go still more into deep now:

can you make a pic of the tom holder unit plus tom bracket at the tom shell, please?

And if possible, can you take off one of the lugs to have a pic from inside?

Sorry, but this is s difficult patient ...

It will please me to send any pics you need! I will upload those tomorrow though, because I am off to play a gig this afternoon. I was wondering if by any chance this kit could have been made for St Louis Music Supplies or another small American distributor early on. Just a thought. I like a good mystery. Also the 1/4 inch smaller bass drum size is a mystery to me...Are there any MIJ drums you know of that are metric sized? I'm really hoping to put a new batter head on and use the calfskin head with a felt strip for the reso head. Thanks again for your input, Ralf!
