Floor tom throne?

Has any one ever converted a floor tom into a fat canister throne? I know it's a dumb question but I.m restoring a WMP Kent "coffin lug" kit and might be able to get another floor tom the same size as the one I have and it has the same matching lugs. I thought if I beefed up the legs and put on a padded seat, it would look really cool. Do you guys think it would be to wide for it to be comfortable while playing? Has anyone ever made there own canister throne from scratch and wrapped it? Rich.

it might look cool but it would kill a good quality, classic American drum.

If the need to do sumthin like this is irresistible, at least get a crappy MIT floor tom.

Yeah, the more I think about it, I should just get the drum and leave as is. Would it make sense to have two 16" FT's? Maybe tuned different. I won't find another one with these lugs.

Buddy Rich used a pair of 16's. Even if one usually was a towel holder, that is still a pretty great endorsement.

You could order a Keller shell and do your canister thorn.

You could also find a crappy FT for a throne. Even re-wrap to match. A couple of years ago my sons band director gave him an old CB700 kit that had been on a shelf in the equipment closet for who knows how many years. After getting it home we realized that the FT had been crushed and the shell was busted from the edge about 2" down and about 4" across. Not repairable w/o cutting shell. It's now a plant stand (can't believe my wife let me put it in the living room).

I was thinking about doing what this guy did with a piece of 12" pvc pipe, here's a pic and the link http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84758

VM2K had a duco kit with double 16" floor toms, tuned differently, from what he said in the post a couple years ago. I never heard them, but double floor toms look killer IMO, so I would pick it up for the sake of having it.
