I just picked up this 80's Tama Swingstar for $250. I initially bought it to leave at our rehearsal room, but after playing it a few times, I may use it as a gigging kit. I won't have to worry about it getting banged up and it sounds great. My Slingys will stay home and safe.

I think those have the same shells as the original Imperialstars. Tama pulled a Ludwig using the same shells with cheaper lugs.....

My first "real" kit was a Tama Swingstar. Fiberglass shells. I loved them!! Enjoy them.

Same here my first set was a Tama Swingstar set in Misty Chrome; 12,13,16,18,22,22 with matching snare. Lots of good times with that kit, lots of 80's hair metal.
Those should be an 84 kit,because of the red "flying T" badge.In 85,they went to a black "Flying T" badge,so,with those lugs,they were only made for 1 year.Before then,they had those tear drop lugs.They are pretty much Imperial stars and have the same zolocoat interior coating on all the shells..
They are pretty bulletproof.
