60's Ludwig Sky Blue Pearl

Loading...

Hi, been looking for my 1st vintage kit and stumbled across this '66 Ludwig (22-13-16 ) for $650.

Worth it? All original except the spurs (no new holes, original mounts) & 4 small holes (plugged) where somebody once had a different mount on the mounted tom.

Really wanted a Slingerland, but need a players kit right now and maybe will look for a project Sling in the near future.

Thanks for your more educated than mine opinion!

I think its a pretty good deal. You can't get a decent import kit for that price. Plus sky blue pearl is way cool!

Thanks, I think it is not the "steal" we are all looking for, but probably a fair price.

Was the hardware and cymbals included? If so, I would say a really good deal. Nice kit!

Not a bad price as long as it is not a rewrap. That pearl looks awfully grey to me...usually a trans-badge Luddy marine pearl will have significantly faded and changed color over 40 years. Sometimes they go olive. Sometimes a very light grey. Sometimes a brownish-grey.

Take a head off and look at the edge condition. Does the wrap come all the way to the edge and is it very, very firmly adhered to the shell at that point ? Does it look like it has some wear from over the years (compressed/feathered) ?

Or does the wrap come short of the edge of the shell by 1/8" or more...or show any gaps between the shell and wrap ?

If it's rewrapped, $500-550 tops.

Thank you Jaye, I will see it in person tomorrow night or Sat. and make a close inspection. Will take a hard look at that wrap.

I got it and love it! The wrap is original from what I can tell, I have been cleaning them up and will post some pics when I have it where I want it. Sounds fantastic.

I paid a little bit more than I might have in some situations, but am happy with the deal and the seller is a nice & honest (fairly) local guy who contacted me about a 18" 50's avedis for $95 that I am going to look at tomorrow.

Now don't ask me how much I spent on the 60's acrolite, spurs, a couple of

70's avedis & the speed king I've bought since...and don't ask my wife, 'cause she don't know!

Well, congrats...it is a real beauty.

Probably a good plan regarding your wife, too Yes Sir

For sure post some more pics...and g'luck with the Avedis. That's a good price for a '50's.
