I`m no guru here but i have a 1979/80 BB with blue/olive badge and i think your badge is after that, possibly 1985 or so.Sorry-no idea on the serial # but search the net and i`m sure you`ll find it.Good luck to you and wish i could be of more help. The real guru`s will know and hopefully chime in...

i'm not up much on the newer stuff. I do see lug gaskets and no internal muffler. that's one sign that is a newer drum. ive got a 2012 Ludwig 6.5 acrolite with serial number 3156381. I would expect yours to be from the same era as mine.

I am still gathering information, but it appears that when Ludwig reissued the Blue/Olive badge in the 2000s, they restarted the serial numbers in the 3140000 range. This is where they were when they ceased using the Blue/Olive badge in the early 1980s. It appears that causes a duplication of serial numbers, albeit on a different style of badge, as the initial Large Keystone badges from Monroe were also in the 3140000 range.

Other than that, I do not have a handle on how to estimate the dates for reissued B/O badge drums. I agree with Mike's suggestions.

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

rick is right. and i'll be honest. this stuff is confusing. a year or so ago, I bought a black beauty on a quick buy it now. I thought it was an older one due to the badge and the serial number. but nope, it ended up being b stock model(factory blemish). I had understood that they were clipping the loer portion of the b/o badge to designate the b stock. they didn't in my case and ive seen a few more like it. that's why I try to look at the hoops, muffler, strainer and gaskets to help date them a bit.

Just out of curiosity can anyone say when they started using gaskets on the BB's?

That would have been the first thing that lead me to believe it was a New Era one.
