Vintage Sonor - Teardrop or Chicago kit...?

Loading...

One more oldtimer here :)

My ex Sonor (hope be back to me one day...) don't know if it was Teardrop or Chicago kit. Note that badge had two separated parts - one with Sonor logo and other with caption "Made in WESTERN Germany". If anyone knows for sure - which year it was made? I searched for some stamp inside of BD, but hadn't find any...

Teardrop Chicago kit is "20", "13x8", "16x14 1/2" from 1964 back.

Also, one piece badge. Tom mount on BD would be off set from center. Teardrop shaped cymbal mount on BD.

I think your kit is post 64. The two piece badge showed up in the late 60`s. There are at least five badges on known drop kits and dating them after 65 is difficult without date stamp.

Your wrap ran from early 60`s to early 70`s. But looking at the cymbal mount, centered BD mount and two piece badge, I`d say late 60`s and would not count out 70 and 71.

Hm...I'll look for more info...

I read somewhere that later versions had 6 ply beech wood, and earlier had 9 ply wood...have to check how many layers had this one

Six ply after 65, no 9 ply. Nine ply was introduced in 72, Super Champion series, whole different animal. It has six, rounded edges, and the long neck teardrop lug.

Henk has five, and I pointed out a sixth he didn`t realize he had. (mallet shaft to the edge of badge)

Your BD cymbal mount is later 60`s.

T-Zex....

Your teardrop Chicago kit is advertised as we see it in the 1969 SONOR USA catalog. Henk pointed that out. I suspected, he confirmed.
