Slingerland experts-Help! BR TDR snare

Loading...

Even though I'm in the middle of a slow and tough Slingy rehab which many of you have been true friends in giving advice, I'm starting a new thread for the snare. I'm getting seemingly nowhere. With the '72 Slingy maple shell, double bass drum set, I got this cool looking BR TDR 10 lug COB snare. I gave away most of the badly pitted hoops to fellow guys here on VDF. I made good progress on the shell and now I have some dough to buy nicer replacement hoops. Was working a deal with my friend Blair and he advised me that the snare doesn't use typical slingy stick saver hoops, but something more "straight up" like Radio Kings...

Sheesh, it's all new to me....can you guys tell me plainly just what kind of hoops I need to ask for so I can put this snare back together and get back to the other work badly needed for this restoration. Obviously, then, it begs the question where I can I buy them???? Violin

Dean have a look at this pic from the catalogs here. Looks like a "stick chopper" hoop was used on the BR snares. Tommy P is quite the expert on them. Myabe he'll chime in for you. I think the hopps are kinda hard to find although you can buy new aftermarket stick chopper hoops for 10 lugs snares. I think the brand is Cannon that drumfactorydirect sells.

BTW if you need those snare hoops back let me know!! They cleaned up pretty well for me. :)

BTW the snare in the pic looks like it has the standard stick saver hoops like yours had? The BR snares with the SC hoops were shorter like 4" or so. Lugs were side by side on those. Have a look here...........

Absolutely not. I wanted those hoops to go someone who could use them. If your rehab technique for chromes got you better results than I did-I say good for you and enjoy! I do appreciate the offer, but I'll hold out for near like new or try aftermarket ones as you suggest. :):):)

I am not too familiar with the BR TDR model..so was thinking it used the RK type Stick Chopper Hoops...as shown on the 4 by 14 in the 1973 catalog on here.....

Now I know it used the more common Stick Saver hoops.....

I own both a mint 5x14 COB BR TDR, and a mint COB 6.5x14 Spitfire (which uses the TDR Throwoff) Both have Stick Saver Hoops.

Perhaps that is correct, Tommy P might chime in, that the 4x14 BR TDR came exclusively with Choppers?

I imagine there was the possibility "one offs", that could've been gotten by endorsers, or special orders, where they could've came with either type Hoops, and it would be no cardinal sin, that the drum was not necessarily altered-changed-buggered after it left the factory.

Thanks Dean. All I did was a Dawn sponge bath and Weiman metal polish. They cleaned up very well. I'm planning a project snare and these hoops are slated for it. So thanks again. Yes Sir That's a cool snare you have it'll be sweet when your done!!
