Yamaha Recording Custom Hot Red

That's a very sharp looking kit. The paint looks to be in great condition. The hardware looks bullet-proof too. The tom and cymbal arm are not going anywhere.

That bass resonant head is crying for a rising sun graphic. Long hair, leather pants (actually vinyl) and bandana are optional. ;)

Wow, great looking kit. 80's kits are the best and that one is at the top of the mark. Power toms rule....and they will come back one day. Well maybe not but lets hope we all get to play our toms sideways again.

Not wanting to steal DolFan54's thunder: Here's the kit he found, and informed me of. It's an '82 model, and I snagged it immediately. As DolFan54 stated in this thread, this vintage is nearly impossible to find with standard sized toms.

csnow: Power toms are okay, as long as you're the one playing them! :)

May I ask what those sold for? Yeah, I really don't want to ever play power toms again. Total pain in the rear to setup right.

The first RC kit I played was in a studio in the early 90's.Piano black,10/12/13/16 22 with a Slingy spitfire snare.

They just sang.Beautiful drums...on every level.

Yup, you may... The kit was $995.00 shipped.

It's a 22, 12, 13, 16 with a 6.5" COS snare. I intend to use it as a four piece, with the 13 up. I'm not sure I'll use it's snare... I have a bunch and I'm thinking a more woody sound goes with this kit. My favorites to use with this kit could be this weird Ludwig Classic Birch from the early 90's (LRP 514) or an early 70's Gretsch or something else round...

Lovely looking kit. Yamaha's are great drums to play. Hope you really enjoy them mate.

I play this setup most gigs - 10x8/12x10/14x14/22x16 and a 5 1/2" Tama snare. This kit rocks. The sizes are totally zen as far as tuning intervals go. I do have other kits in standard sizes; but the issues are:

1. The songs we play all feature classic drum performances, mostly played on kits with more than one rack tom. Lots of Purdie, Gadd, Porcaro, Marotta et al. I can (and have) played the gig on two toms; but it's really too much thinking, when I have to sing too.

2. I have always preferred a 10" tom in front. So the little bit of extra depth in these means they are deep enough in tuning; and the heads don't wear out as fast as my other kits in classic sizes. If I play 12/13/16, yes - I prefer the smaller sizes. But power has it uses! ;-)

Amazing kit. What a gem, it doesn't look like it has a scratch on it. I sure hope they take great care when boxing it.

troutstudio: That's a sweet kit! Yeah, I used to play more drums, but the older I get... :)

csnow: I got those in June, so the pictures are in my backyard. They did a great job packing the kit nested. A music store... somewhere. Midwest? I don't remember now. They were on eBay.

Awesome! I was wondering if you were ever going to post pics, lol. If I hadn't bit the bullet on the drums to put my kit together I definitely would've bought that kit. I finally found an 18" floor to add to my kit, I'll post pics soon.

Congrats on the kit!
