Lat night I watched a two part series......"History Of The Eagles". It was amazing, very informative and entertaining. I love The Eagles, but didn't really realize how great of a drummer Don Henley is........

Yes I watched that recently too. Very well done and great footage. I kinda burned out on the Eagles years ago. As I do with some music. But that show reminded me of all the great music they made over the years. And refreshed my interest again. :) I was channel surfing when I came across it from the beginning. Thought I'd watch a bit and move on but it hooked me line and sinker.

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Oddly enough, my sentiments exactly. I had loved them as a kid and still do, but rarely listen to them or had forgotten about the band. It was great footage and man what great songwriters they were.

Henley has always been a solid drummer. Good grooves, makes all the hits and he uses tasty fills. I may be alone in this, but... I have never liked the 'sound' of his drums! I don't think there's one Eagles record where it doesn't sound like Henley is playing 5 gallon plastic buckets turned upside down.

Love the guy as a writer, singer, drummer, but I never liked his drum sound though. Thud, thud, thud.

I was always a big eagles fan. Just found the music gave me that "peaceful easy feeling". I just never think of Henley on my list of drummers. He's solid and plays for the music. But no clinician.

I think his sound is very much the sound of the 70s studio drums.

We DVR'd that 2 part documentary, and I've watched it several times, brought back a lot of memories of the 70s, and I'm always amazed that he plays the same kit for almost 10 years.

1958 Gretsch Kit
1966 Kent Kit
1969 Ludwig Standard Kit
1970 Rogers Power Tone Kit
1970's Ludwig Vistalite Kit
1994 Yamaha Maple Custom
2010 Yamaha Maple Custom
28 assorted snares (including some real crap)
and 1 really nice K Zildjian Istanbul

Love the Eagles, hated the drum sounds. That was the quintessential 70's west coast studio sound. Ugh. What it did do, however, was leave plenty of aural space for their extremely well crafted (and plentiful) guitar parts and vocal stacks.

I totally agree with the drum sound. You guys are right on. I was actually more impressed with Henley's playing with his earlier bands like ShiLo and some country stuff. What's up with Mr. Purdie.....is that story true?:o
