Star Drum Kit Early 70's Pre Tama

From seantdrums

Thanks for your advice. Just been looking through the website and see that the colour of wrap is metallic blue. On the tom mounts thers are two black screw bolts to hold the toms on, i have noticed that most kits just have a bolt. On one of the bass drum hoops half of the inlay is missing, do you know if this colour of wrap can be bought to piece up the hoop.

Hi again, sir!

When I purchased my blue sparkle Tempos, both inlays were missing. I decided to try Precision for the matching set. My mistake, not the wrap company. It is near-impossible to match up faded old wrap with modern versions. The blue sparkle that I was sent, was completely "off". I wish I had gone with a gloss black instead. Perhaps you could try that or face the rim to the bottom (your side). Hope everything works out.

This is a rare piece of history, Sir.

The Blue Metallic wrap dates it to the very late times of Star. Royal Star badges: the same. To my opinion, this configuration was something like a 'sold-out' from Star just before they switched over to Tama: they wanted to get rid of the old-style lugs, shell types etc., in order to start like brandnew under the name Tama (although some 'Star'-relicts still can be found at the very early Tama drumsets).

Thanks for the info Ralf. The kit i must say set up sounds and looks really classy. I bought it because it looked like class and it seemed to have a bit of all the great kits coming out at you. Once ive cleaned it up ill post all the pics.

None of the lugs are off set, just the usual configuration.

Hello Ralf i emailed you about the other star kit i have bought, i am sending this message to remind you of this blue metallic kit. Basically i will be selling both royal star kits, would it be a good idea to let someone on vintage drum to have first offer before i put them on ebay, i will send you completed pics of both kits. sean

Thanks, Sean, I remember now. ;)

Looking forward to your pics. The missing type of the rail consolette at your 'Silky Red' kit is exactly the one like at your Metallic Blue kit.

[Does the Blue Metallic kit have heavy shells with reinforcement rings?]

Edit: Just noticed the grey interior. So these are not the heavy shell types.
