Star Drum Kit Early 70's Pre Tama

Loading...

I picked this kit up the other week. The kit is in pretty good shape needs some cleaning especially the bass drum hoops. The tom on the floor has heads and hoops, the rail mounts for the toms are in great nik. Here are the sizes....22..12..13..16. All the badges are on the drums no hardware is missing. Here are some pics as i got it. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

sean

10 lugs on a 22 and 8 on a 16...THAT is a nice set of Stars.

I would think that it would be one of their better kits in the consolette era.

Nicely made shells.

Great score.

Not done anything with them yet im finishing off the kitchen snare drum. The shells are in great condition, not sure of the woods used in the ply's, im counting 7 ply on these drums. Im not a collector i hunt around find bargains and sell em on. Even though the wrap on floor tom has some scars etc etc or battle wounds, do you reckon i should keep the wrap on for originality....

you can clean em up but as far as alterations go, leave em alone. If they are all original and you're at all concerned about value, change nothing unless something is broken, and replace it with original part.

Please! Do not strip the wrap! They look fine... Clean them, and flip 'em, but don't 'fix' them. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Holliwood shares good advice! Unless the wrap is ripped to pieces and missing in places, please leave it alone. Also, and I know some people will jump on me for this but, NO STEEL WOOL. There are far better ways to remove rust. There are also some excellent chrome polishes out there as well. Beautiful kit! Well worth taking your time and doing it right.

Thanks for your advice. Just been looking through the website and see that the colour of wrap is metallic blue. On the tom mounts thers are two black screw bolts to hold the toms on, i have noticed that most kits just have a bolt. On one of the bass drum hoops half of the inlay is missing, do you know if this colour of wrap can be bought to piece up the hoop.

The kitchen snare drum i have on another thread under going a total refurb, it is from very early 20th century approx 1911. The shell is stamped KITCHEN & CO MAKERS LEEDS...Cant get much info apart from it having similar hoops to a german snare drum built in 1900 which inspired ludwig to build metal shell snare drums.....The rest is history...
