Probably a Big Beat kit in Butcher Block wrap?

This brings up a question that's probably been covered on VDF already but...
Was the Cortex wrap just a stronger wrap vs. the standard Pearls?

the butcher block wrap is the same thickness as Wmp or Bdp wrap no difference.
While we all want 100% reliability in all aspects of our lives, that's only going to happen in death and taxes.
I don't think VM 2 K,knew the dimentions of those drums, whan he gave you his answer.
I'm thinking your drums are the Pro Beat kit, based on the dimentions and extra matching 18x16 floor tom.
From the serial number you gave, they are more likley 77-78 vintage, than 72.
If that's true, then they should be 6 ply maple/poplar without rerings.
If the drums are 3 ply, then they are likely 76 or earlier, and possibly some drums may have been added on at a later date
The only way to tell is with ALL the serial number, and looking at the insides of all the toms and bass drum..The spurs during that time were either 5/15" for 3 ply shells up to 76 or so,and then 1/2" for the 6 ply shells.
