Avendis and K Zildjian Istanbul Cymbals

Loading...

Back in 2006 I bought an old 70s kit from an ex semi-pro and I replaced the cymbals on it with some brand new Sabian AAXs I bought. As such the old ones sat around not being used.

I was having a small problem with money so put a couple of them on ebay not realising their value. One of them was a 1970s Zildjian K 18" Crash - Made in Turkey. When I recieved an offer of £300 ($420) I took it straight away. I then looked around and found similiar cymbals selling online at £650 ($800)! I wish I had checked before I sold it!

Anyway, back to the point of this. I still have a few cymbals (and drums sitting around not being used an I'm considering selling them too. Can anyone advise me of a guide price or give me any advice regarding selling them.

What I have left:

Avendis Zildjian 16" Crash Cymbal (circa 1970s) Made in Turkey - Istanbul

Avendis Zildjian 18" Crash Cymbal (circa 1970s) Made in Turkey - Istanbul (cracked)

Paiste 2002 20" Heavy Ride Cymbal (1970/80s?) Made in Switzerland

Sabian B8 Plus 16" Chinese Crash (1970/80s?)

Sabian B8 Plus 18" Chinese Crash (1970/80s?)

A 9-Piece PSL Drum Kit (circa 1970s)

Premier Snare Drum (+Hard Case) (circa 1970s) - Mint condition

With some of the kit I don't know the decade it's from and with the snare drum I have no idea of the model, if I were to post up some pictures would you be able to help me identify them?

And also, if you're interested in buying anything please let me know.

Thanks

Hi. yes, that's what happens sometimes when folks just figure they wanna unload some "old" cymbals. Well, at least you didn't end up letting it go for 100 pounds, so it could have been much worse.

Actually, these days an old 18" K really wont fetch more than $400-500usd. Half a year ago it was different, but not any longer.... and I doubt we will ever see those insane market values ever again. So you might have undersold it by 10-15% but nothing much worse than that. The buyer was at least moral enough not to lowball you.

Now, your list is a little confusing. Can you look again and clarify it ?

You write "AVEDIS (there's no "n") MADE IN TURKEY ISTANBUL"...

Check the stamp again. If it says Avedis, it usually won't say 'Istanbul' or "Made in Turkey". If it says 'Made in Turkey' and/or 'Istanbul' it usually says 'K. Zildjian' (?)

If it says 'Avedis'.... it usually says 'Genuine Turkish Cymbals' & 'Made in USA'.

I ask because there would be a HUGE value difference depending on whether one or the other....

Also, post a pic of the Premier drum. THAT may be worth something to a vintage buff.

I'll take some pictures of the engravings tomorrow but for the moment I don't have a camera.

Right, this is exactly what it says on both of the zildjian cymbals I have left (just checked).

[Some Arabic Writing]

AVENIS

ZILDJIAN Co.

GENUINE TURKISH CYMBALS

MADE IN USA

so yes my fault, they are not Turkish.

The one I sold before was definately a K Zildjian, made in turkey/istanbul. On the Avenis I saw turkish and jumped to a conclusion.

Any idea on a price then? What about the Paiste and Sabians?

OK, that sounds right.

16" '70's Avedis = $75-90 (usd)

18" Avedis = maybe $25 (it's cracked...has hardly any resale value anymore)

Paiste 2002 20" Heavy Ride = $125 or so, maybe $150 if it's 30 years old.

The Sabians are not worth much at all because they are chinas, and they are B8 series...maybe $40 each.

Hope this helps.

What size K was it and how much did you get for it?

It was an 18" Crash. The guy offered me £300 plus postage for it.

That seems about what it should be.

Unless it happened to be an old stamp. Then it was a better deal than normal.

I've got no idea as to what stamp it is.

It says:

[moon and star]

MADE IN TURKEY

[arabic logo thing]

K Zildjian & Co.

ISTANBUL

ZILDJIAN

I can tell you it's got a signature on the underside of the bell though.

Yes...as has been said, probably a little bit underpriced, but not much. You didn't get robbed by any means.
