1960s Pearls

I have recently purchased but not yet picked up these Pearl drums. I know MIJ's for sure I'm guessing but can anyone else chime in as to thoughts? Appears to be a green sparkle, single ply. Good shape but is missing the bass drum tom mount. I would appreciate any comments or thoughts by gurus and/or quasi-gurus alike. Thanks.

ps. attached is photo. thanks

Of course you are not likely to get too many comments on here until you get them and are able to post some pics.....(except comments echoing this one). Meanwhile, I have never seen a single ply Pearl drum from the 60s. Do you believe these are single ply by claims of the seller or your first-hand observation?

John

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Thanks John. The seller expressed that they were single ply. I'm buying these sight unseen (except for few pics). I'm not expecting too much from these drums and don't know much about older MIJ's so I took him at his word. Thanks :)

Maybe he meant single lug design, not single ply. Those are Luaun mahogany and the look great. Should be a fun kit.

Heres what I know..

Theres a guy on here from Japan that knows his stuff...

(name is Osaka ?) Hopefully he adds some comments..

I do have a similar kit..

If its Pearl's with single lug design there called the Valencia series..

The Pearl logo with the hole inside the "P" puts them @ 1965/66

They are 3ply luan with rerings..Better then the 6/9 plys later on..!

Heres some pic's of a set I picked up awhile back..

These are from a Cpl yrs later then yours (I think)69/70..

20" with railmount & (2) cym L arm (14" Flr Tom.!) & 12" rack & matching snare..All come with internal dampeners..!

pics of badges/shell / plys /bass skin..

I removed the 2nd "L" lug mount so that you could see the 3ply..!

Thanks Rims (and others) for the info. Nice kit you have there. Now I'm getting excited! Visiting another city tomorrow on vacation and checked on the Craigslist there and will pick them up. Another good reason to take vacation!

Larryz,

I would like to buy the Pearls you have. Let me know for how much you would sell and ship the drums to SF, CA 94107?

Everything is there, just not assembled (esp with the bass). I picked these up last week. Nice emerald green sparkle and I love the smaller sizes. Bass drum will need a little work though. Pitting on the hardware and lots of cleaning in store. Talk about lightweights too! Light as a feather.
