WTB: Cheap kit (Kent, MIJ, 60s)

Loading...

Looking for something cheap. Can be a 4 piece kit or 3 piece kit. A bass and tom will do. Prefer a 20x14 or 18x14 bass with a 12x8 and 14x14 tom. Would also consider a 22x14 bass with 13x9 and 16x16 tom. I just need the chrome to be in descent shape. I know it doesn't have to be like new, as long as it's not covered in rust.

Wrap is not a issue. I plan to try the "credit card thick" vinyl wrap from the sparkledrumwrap guy on eBay. He sent some samples and it's pretty nice stuff. Unless the wrap is nice on the kit, I won't replace it.

Let me know what you got with pics and price including shipping to murfreesboro, tn 37128

Thanks.

Recently saw these Kent drums in the Raleigh, NC craigslist:

Not sure of your price-range, but these look pretty nice for the money.

Best of luck!

That's my price range and I'd love that kit...but too far. I believe that kit sold on eBay a couple months ago. I did a completed search just to see what I might have missed.

I think I might just go with a brand new custom classic birch 18/12/14/14 for $350 shipped and make it look vintage. Wrap in the gold glitter and install a rail mount I have been saving. No hurry though so will wait it out.

Thanks for the tip.

Hey Man,

Just a little head's up on the vinyl wrap from sparkledrumwrap on eBay...in theory it's a nice fix. In actuality, it wrinkles up like an old lady...especially once you tighten the lugs on there and then torque down the heads. If you leave it in a hot car, then forget about it...your drums will look like a raisin! It also rips pretty easily. Unless you're gonna leave it in a climate-controlled environment, I would suggest against it. Just my :2Cents:. Good luck with your hunt.

I know the sparkle brite will do that but anyone have any experience with the new stuff he has? He sent me a bunch of samples. It feels the same thickness as real drum wrap. It's not a peel and stick thin film. I think it's actually a vinyl upholstery. Actually if you search "glitter vinyl upholstery" on ebay you can get the same stuff for cheaper in bigger rolls. I would apply this like I would real drum wrap.

Thanks.

I looked this wrap and yeah...it looks like automotive sparkle vinyl to me also. I wonder if that would work on a vintage kit, as the shells tend to run a little big anyway. I would be concerned that you would not be able to get your heads on and if you forced them, you would probably wrinkle the vinyl. Again, just my :2Cents:. If I had a cheapie vintage kit, especially an MIJ kit, I might consider painting a lacquer finish on it. Best of luck on your venture.

Yea, if I get a cheap kit, I might give it a try. I actually searched for glitter vinyl upholstery and found it cheaper. I compared it with a scrap piece of red pearl wrap I got from drummaker.com and it looks like it's about the same thickness or just slightly thinner. No way will it go over old wrap but might work around bare shells.

I hope to just find a old kit that doesnt even need to be re wrapped.

Thanks.
