Star Gigging Kit

Psychedelic Root Beer...I like that! I actually don't know what the real name of the wrap is. I tried looking it up but didn't have any luck.

First I thought, that the rack tom was an orphan Pearl drum. But the genuine STAR tom bracket (in the 1st pic) is the key: it's really a Star rack tom - and it's almost unbelievable, but someone has replaced ALL the lugs from the rack tom with Pearl style lugs ...

Is the finish a polished wooden surface or a plastic wrap on it?

Ralf

NB: it will be difficult to find the matching lugs for a replacement anywhere.

@Starplayer

little info by the way, when it comes to Star Drums; Forum Member Ralf is your man! He knows a lot about Star and is a really nice guy as well:-)

@Drummerjohn333

As far as i know is the best place for a bass drum mic, in the bass drum. One third out of center and then you change the distance to the batter head...closer for more kick and backwards for more of a boomy sound.You should never place the mic right in the hole, you would hear the air of the drum coming out;-) The method i explained up in the post, is the common practice in Studios and live today, as far as i know from my gigging at the moment!

A mic in front of the bassdrum you do in a studio, but there is still one inside the drum, and sometimes even one beside the bassdrumpedal to take the kick!

Hello Ralf!

Thanks for taking the time to post. Yes I was certain the tom is original Star..I have no idea who, why, or when all the lugs were replaced though it was long before I inherited her!

It is a wrap for sure... it looks original to me but may not be.

I realize that original lugs may be hard to come by, but as I posted earlier this is a working kit more than a 100% correct restoration so i am not too concerned about it right now.

Any other tidbits or information you could provide would be interesting and appreciated though !

"Psychedelic root beer"... Coolest name I've ever heard for a wrap. And love the wrap too...awesome!

i think these lugs are quite close to the ones you need, but they are certainly better then the Pearl ones(on a Star;-))
