The Culmination of a 2 Year Restoration

Loading...

It literally took me two years to source all the shells and hardware for this kit.

These are 1960's Pearl and Whitehall MIJs with three ply shells with re-rings. They came off of three different drumsets all different colors of course. I reconditioned the bearing edges, used an attractive artificial stone paint for the interiors and cleaned up all the hardware. I also went to rim mounts for the rack toms. Boy what a difference that made. These drums sound better than either of my Slingerland sets. Oh I also took a 9X13 rack tom and converted it to a deep snare. Sounds sweet! And I built those octobans from scratch!

Now for the wrap, I had to custom design the wrap for each drum, if you look closely you will notice that the graphic size is keyed to the drum size so that it remains proportional to the size of each drum. That was some tricky photoshop work but it turned out nice. Then I had my friends at Bumwrap generate the wraps based on my Photoshop psd files. They do a good job and their price is about half what most drum wrap runs. Not bad for custom wraps.

Set configuration:

9X13 Snare

8X12 RT

9x13 RT

14x14 FT

16X16 FT

14X20 BD

20X6 Octoban

18X6 Octoban

4X10 Firecracker Snare (Pearl)

Congratulations on an absolutely stunning set. Nice job resizing the graphic to keep it the same scale on the different size drums. Didn't know about Bumwrap. Just checked out their site.

Where'd you get the octoban shells?

Port Plastics here in Denver. Finding them at a reasonable price was a challenge, most dealers wanted twice what I ultimately paid.

Hoops inlays in that wrap would look really nice. Any plans for that?

Clear and vibrant graphics there - that just jump out at ya! Very cool lovers design too!

- another testimonial to the quality of select MIJs (once restored and refined).

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Were you thinking of "Burnin' for you" by B.O.C. when you conceived of that wrap? Excellent job!
