70's LUDWIG STAINLESS STEEL

Loading...

This is one of the most amazing sets ever made. The Ludwig stainless steel line was made from 1976 to 1980-81. The drums were expensive to make and the street price in the 70's was more than a car. That being said, not many were sold. Take a look on eBay on any given day and you will see that not many of them are floating around. This set includes a 24" bass drum with new inlays. The hoops need to be refinished, but are in pretty good shape to be 35 years old. It also includes a 14" mounted Tom with new hoops. The Tom was originally a concert tom. I had it drilled by someone that works in stainless steel. It has two extra holes under the Tom mount. They CAN NOT be seen from the outside. There are 16" and 18" floor toms. The 16" has a new bottom hoop and the 18 has both original hoops which may need some steel wool. The shells are in great shape for there age. I always use cases to move them. The cases aren't that great, but do the job very well. They are vintage fiber cases. Probably humes and berg. The badges on all of the drums are intact and in amazing shape.

THE SNARE- The snare is a modern Ludwig Supraphonic 6.5"x14". It is not a B-stock. The B-Stock badge has the serial number cut off. This is the real deal. The snare originally had rubber gaskets under the lug casings. Why drum companies do this is anyone's guess. What they do is completely reduce the shell resonance. Why buy an expensive drum that has gaskets that reduce resonance. You are hearing the heads, not the shell. I took them off and the snare sings! I also replaced the flimsy steel hoops with beefy die-cast hoops. This helps reduce sympathetic hoop vibrations that produce unwanted head ring. I also added 42 strand copper snares. The more strands, the more snare sound. And to top it off....I changed the horrible Ludwig P85 strainer with the newer Ludwig Millennium strainer. This is a definite upgrade. It is simple in design, but is one of the best designed strainers made. The snare comes with a humes and berg enduro case.

And next.......THE CYMBALS! The set includes a 24" Giant Beat ride, a vintage 22" 2002 black label ride, a 20" vintage 2002 black label ride or crash, it does both, a 20" 2002 wild crash, a set of 15" sound edge hats, bought only a few months ago with not much play. All of the cymbals are in great shape, except the wild crash. The wild crash had a small edge crack that has been repaired by me. I have owned it for a year and a half and it hasn't moved.

I am selling my set due to having hereditary peripheral neuropathy. It has become too painful to play at loud volume and fast pace. My fine motor control has also diminished to the point of not being able to play with texture. I would rather these go to someone that will play them. They are too amazing to sit and gather dust. Email me for pictures. I don't know if anyone on here is a synth player, but I may be interested in higher end synths.

I just want to echo what Mark said, sorry to hear of your health problems. Hope you make a quick sale or cool trade for the kit. I've owned a few of those kits over the years, those drums, especially in that configuration is a Rock drummers dream kit.

Regards, best wishes,

John

Too many great drums to list here!
