I have a question about some Premier drums that I got recently. First off, let me say that I got the drums (10", 12", 14", 22") for 20 dollars, so I don't feel that bad that the drums are...well...made of press-board.
When I got the drums home and into the garage to begin stripping, sanding, and staining them, I was surprised to find that under the paper-thin wrap was a thick layer of pasteboard (the same flaky wood pulp that a pegboard for hanging small tools in a shed would be made from) and under this were two thin veneers of luaan, the outer of which was painted black and made up the interior of each drum. I was really surprised at the poor quality; the drums were out of round and pieced of the wood pulp were water damaged and had begun flaking off. Eye Ball
My questions are (1) was this/is this common with older Premier drums? (2) What make/model would these drums be (I have had a few suggestions, but nothing definitive)?
Fortunately the lugs were in pretty good shape and I'll be saving them for a future rebuild I'm planning next year, so I don't feel too bad about being out 20 dollars - but I expected a lot more from good ol' Premier!
Thanks in advance for any information!
