Wood Veneer

Loading...

From kellyj

In the photo are the bare bones Sonors (early 60's teardrops 20,16,12). I'm thinking Beech Veneer to "keep it natural" ? If it were not for thehresidual glues and the small but numerous bits of wood fiber that came off with wrap I would just finish them as is. Ideas?Looking for your input?Cheers!~K

On my rosewood teardrops the veneer is applied vertically. (Not wrapped around the shell, but the grain runs from edge to edge.) See my kit in the images section. I think most Sonor veneers are done this way. The guys at "Sonor Museum" forum are very knowledgable about this. A guy named MGM on there is a veneer expert.

Yes. good advice. I did wonder about the potential of thin veneers to absorb stain and laquers.

What about "oil rub" finishes?

Oil rubbed would be fine and I'm sure stains and lacquers would be too. As always try a test piece, you should have some left over to mess around with.

Lucky,

I checked out your Rosewood kit on images...gorgeous. Looks like an oil rubbed finish?

I found paper-backed rosewood veneer at the site referred on another thread.

A good match for the sonor shells!

Trouble is, it's the most expensive wood they have at $160 for a 2' X8' sheet. It would take two sheets to do the kit, I think. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
