Zildjian 70s Made in Canada Med Crash

I have an opportunity to pick up an 18" Zildjian A medium crash. Made in Canada. What's a fair price to pay?

it always depends on the weight, for me but if I owned one, and it was a good one( most are); as a seller , I would like to get about 150.00 for it, maybe even 200.00, if I really liked it.. as a buyer, it is always nice to get a deal but the haggled price would lie somewhere in between----maybe 125.00, to be fair.

i can't see that it will devalue over time and the Canadian ones aren't that common and seem a little different. Perhaps they continued to hand hammer , after they had stopped in the U.S. i don't know about that, for sure.

i own a U.S. made 19" and a CND. made 19" from about the same period and they are quite different cymbals----weights are very similar, though. the CDN. one has more intrigue to it; more immediate attraction.cymbals can have harmonic overtones and disharmonic overtones.

Great thanks for the detailed reply. I don't know if it's because I'm in Canada, but it seems like the majority of vintage zildjians for sale locally were made in Canada.

I have a few of these..

my fav crash cym is a Canadian made early 70s 16" med to light crash..

Its been my go to cym for the last 7/8 yrs..

$75 / $100 is what I pay...I'm in the Toronto area..

When buying it...Try to use it with the sellers kit /

try it out for a Cpl songs....if you like, paying an extra $20 doesn't matter if you like it.. However just checking it for cracks/keyholing,,,then getting it home and playing it / only to find out your not to thrilled..

Then you'ld end up just selling it to someone else..!

**Check to make sure that the prev owner didn't remove any INK logo..

I've come across this before..

Thanks. I'm in the Toronto area as well. I ended up picking the cymbal up in a trade for a DW 5000 single pedal. I really like the crash. It's heavier than I expected, maybe even thicker than my A Custom Medium thats about a year old. But it's definitely got more overtones, sounds warmer and not as clangy.

That's true. It would make sense , in a certain time period for shipments of Zildjians to come from New Brunswick-----there would have been duty on the American A's. I suppose there were enthusiasts for those as well, though and they were both probably marketed ,in parallel.

A lot of the Canadian cymbals have very faint stamps, sometimes almost impossible to see. The 19" , I own was bought for 30.00 ,because neither the seller nor myself could see any stamp. When I got it home, I took a magnifying glass and went over it and voila!

I've bought and sold most of my cymbals over the years in the Toronto area ,as well.

Anyone from around the GTA , should check out my thread on the Williams snare drum I bought on Queen st. ,about 10 years ago or so.

Hope you enjoy the cymbal. If you are into sound files at all, it would be nice to hear it or get a report , after living with it for a while.
