Maxwin by Pearl restorated;-)

Loading...

This brings a smile to my face. My first set was a Maxwin. I loved it when my dad bought it for me 2nd hand when I was in 5th grade (1995). Then I found out that it was a lower line kit, and as soon as I could afford it, I upgraded to some Pearl Session Series drums, and thereafter every kit has been vintage American (except one Yamaha RC briefly).

Looking back, those Maxwins actually sounded pretty good for what they were. It's good to see them surfacing on this forum.

Wow!! Your kit looks GREAT!

I've got a couple out in the garage like it (not Maxwin, but similar). I need to get those projects going!!

Just for the files, I like to add a Maxwin by Pearl set, which is in my hands at the moment:a 3-pc-set in colour code 35: 'Gold Hairline', which looks like a really nice 'brushed metallic copper' finish to me.

NB: if someone is interest: it's up for sale.

I think you did the right thing. A fully restored mij kit with all original hardware and finish isn't really worth much more than a couple hundred $ anyway. I think you need to upgrade it a bit before it's worth money to anyone as a playable kit. So by adding the Rim mount, you probably improved it enormously.

You implied that you got a good price for it, did you disclose to the buyer that the kit was based on vintage mij shells (you should have). If you did and still got a good price, I think it bodes well for the rest of us who like to restore MIJ kits.

Hy, i think you are right! I also think that you have to upgrade them to a playable kit for today. The Luan Wood has a cool sound, so this makes sense when you want to build a cool players kit.

O yes, i did tell the man that its based on a vintage MIJ Kit, and he liked it even more then;-)

His Band is playin 70s Rock so it´s in perfect hands:-)

Yes i got a good price for it:-) nearly 400$ in your currency!Yes Sir

So by repeatin all the work, it was fun and brought money to my wallet:-)

Did that price include the cymbals and hardware or just the shellpack?

Hy MutantMozart

with the Hardware and the Cymbals! Without that, it would be a wee bit expensive;-)

It was still a very good deal for me, and for the Man who bought it!

Depends on how you are selling them. They are not original so you aren't really selling a collector kit. That means you are selling an upgrade kit. For an upgrade and restore of that magnitude, I'd say that it is not expensive at all. The shellpack alone is worth maybe $200-250 but those rim mounts, wrap, and new heads are worth something as well. With the additional cymbals and hardware, could be worth even more than what you got.

@MutantMozart

you are right, when you would buy the things to upgrade the kit new, but i got the cymbalsset on ebay for 25$ i only bought the rim and the bracket for the mounted tom and the color to finish the shells. The rest was more or less with the kit(with a few exeptions..srews and so on, wich i had in my stock at home)and the kit i got for about 40$ from a buddy of mine:-).

So i think it was a good deal:-)flower
