Difference Between Remo 20" Heads

Loading...

I need to purchase a 20" resonant head for my Premier bass drum. I found these two Remo heads:
Remo 20" Smooth White Ambassador Bass Drumhead - BR-1220-00-

Remo 20" Smooth White Ambassador Batter Drumhead - BA-0220-00-
I know the description says "Bass" for one and "Batter" for the other, but I can get the "Batter" head for $8.39 less. So. other than price, what would be the difference?

I thought the Ambassadors were all 10-ply.

Thanks,

-Tim

Tim,

think the Batter would be for 20" FT....not positive though...

I have 2 brand new 20" Pre-International Coated Ambassadors BD heads on hold at a store I don't need!

If you want them at my cost...please let me know!

I was thinking the Batter was for a floor tom too, but what's the difference in construction/size/material? Would this be fine for a resonant bass drum head?

Funny you should offer 2 new 20" Pre-international heads. I ordered a Smooth White PI Ambassador head thinking my Premier bass drum was PI, but it's actually International sized drum. The PI head does not fit. I think my kit is a combination of sizes that occurred during the transition. So I also have a PI 20" head I can't use. :)

Ha ha Tim,

that's the same reason I don't need them!.I ordered 2 of them thinking the same thing..

my BD is International size too...

12" is PI...using up old shells?

Since the heads were custom ordered...I have to pay for them,as it is quite doubtful anyone else is going to be needing any in the near future!:(

Batter is for a floor tom with a steel hoop and the Bass is for the bass drum with a wood (or metal) separate hoop and claws. The "flesh hoop" is very different between them because of how the head sits on the shell in relation to the hoops.

If you have a bass drum with conventional hoops and claws, you need the bass head. If you have tom tom style hoops on the bass (i.e. converted floor tom) you need a batter head.

Hope that clears it up! (I was confused by this once too...LoLoLoLo)

Ah, that makes sense. Never thought the head collars were different between a bass and a tom head.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess I'm stuck buying the more expensive head. ;)

it is a bigger hoop on the bass head, so in some small way, this may justify the price increase...

Look at the heads you have now and compare the hoops- you'll see the difference in size alone, but I think the actual diameter is a bit different as well.
