For the first few years of drumming I was very happy to have a 4 piece kit. (one snare) Then I saw a friends brothers kit with a piccolo side snare. I had never seen one but just had to have one. After that I always set up with a side piccolo and sometimes used it as a timbale.

Eventually I bought a 7" deep Mapex maple cannon of a snare for stadium rock. Then I got a steel snare and so on before long I guess I had a snare collection.

I use different snares for different situations and have had about 6-8 snares for years until I really got into vintage stuff. Now I have about 28 snares. About half vintage. I use most of them.

I am really attracted to single tension rod snares, even though they tend to be cheeper I also like wood hoops.

Id love to hear about your snare choices and collection if you have and of course see pics. Here's mine.
