1970's ludwig elonglated bell shaped drums

I remember long ago my first YES concert. Alan White had just joined the band and the show that I went to was downtown Detroit at the Cobo Arena.

Prior to attending the show, I had picked up the current Ludwig drum catalogue (around 1975, 76?) and Ludwig started making these single head drums that were of a plastic or fiber construction with a huge elongated bell shape below the drum head for sound projection.

When I got to the YES concert, Alan White had an entire set of these drums in white. They have an entirely unique sound.

Well, last night I was in Hayward, CA and ran across a band that had finished its gig for the night, the drummer was gone home and on stage was his kit.....the bell shaped old Ludwigs in black. His kit looked to be in perfect condition.

Anyone know the name of these oddball Ludwig drums and the years of production?

Ive never seen a single one since the 70's until last night and Its driving me nuts trying to figure it out..!

Thanks MCJNIC but I believe you are incorrect and Ive been searching over the internet half the day today trying to find these buggers. What you are referring to I believe came either before or after the drums Im talking about. The drums were single headed with and elongated 90 degree bell at the end and all one piece construction, NOT attachments toa standard single headed (concert tom) type thing. I used to own the catalog and did see these drums live in the 70's, in the music store showroom and I saw a kit last night in Hayward, CA. Im gonna try to get a hold of the owner and ask him if someone doesnt come up with the answer for me here.........Its such a strange drum and I believe it may have only come out for a single season in mid 70's .....I just cant remember the name....and Im positive they were Ludwigs............my girlfriend thinks maybe Ludwig was embarassed by them and thats why we cant find them anywhere on the net..........LOL.....

North Drums. I thought you were speaking of Ludwig drums. You are describing a set of North Drums. Here's a pic. Let me know if these are them. They were VERY sweet drums. I came 'this close' to purchasing a set of them in California. Instead, I picked up a sweet set of Premiers. As an aside, they had Steve Gadd's kit there for sell. Young and stupid me, I didn't pick that up. Anyway, it should be the North kit you are speaking of.

I had totally forgotten about North. I did own a catalog at one time and could have sworn they were Ludwig..

Lets not forget about Staccato drums....they were very similar to North too.....but the horn shapes were wilder....

White played North drums for a short period with Yes. It was mid to late 70's.
