I have this 20" Zyn 2star ride which doesn't look like nickel silver. I thought below Super and 5star they were NS12 but this looks similar in colour to an old Zildjian A only a little lighter. It doesn't sound completely awful either. Is it possible some of the 2stars were made of a better quality alloy than the others? it's 1700gms.
Zyn 2 star 20" ride - What's it made of?
here's a video sample for what it's worth[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Szw2u0zrVJ4"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Szw2u0zrVJ4[/ame]
It looks like NS12...
...and in fact it is NS12.

Not exactly what you might call a glowing appraisal.
Thanks.
Not a glowing appraisal but what I meant was, all the NS12 cymbals I've had sounded completely awful but, oddly, this one doesn't, leading me to wonder if it wasn't NS12. That said, it's not an amazing sounding cymbal, just not offensive to the ears and quite useable. And that is about as glowing an appraisal as a Zyn 2 star has probably ever had.
I've never seen a 2 star like that, looks like a later vintage, but have seen 5 star zyn's – I always thought they were B20. Yours looks like NS12 for sure. The 2 50's Super Zyns I have are hand hammered and defiantly B20.
On another note. I got a small 10" Zyn hi hat top the other day and oddly it is B8 or B10, the only one I've ever seen. I found this on youtube about a similar cymbal, guy had it analyzed... B10.

thanks Mark. I had an 18" Zyn sizzle that sounded like a paint tin full of nails rolling down a hill and Paiste Stambul that had the same effect of rubbing polystyrene together when hit - a nasty shiver down the spine. So, I'm quite surprised by this one because it actually sounds like a cymbal, and not a bad one (again with the high praise).
I picked up a thin Zyn Super 14" hi hat top recently that is fantastic. I've paired it with a spare thin Zildjian A bottom I have and it makes for a really nice set.
That does not sound like and nickel silver cymbal I have heard, although I have not heard that many.To me it sounds like it could be b-20.
That one sounds really good for what it is supposed to be,the bell is really nice, and the tone sounds good to me,near feild it sounds like it roars a bit as far as the wash,if it were mine I would probably experiment with some tape to cut the wash back a little bit.
Maybe it was a 5 star that got stamped wrong?
I'm prepared to go with the experts and just accept it's a pretty good sounding NS12 cymbal. Who'd have thought?
