Hey Mark, The 70'-71' BR replica I was able to find (#56419) has a factory clear maple interior !,so we now know they didn't paint all of them. I'll measure the snare and butt plate locations ASAP and get them to you in case you get antsy with that drill and don't want to wait for the paper pattern. By the way,the stick-chopper repros are a LITTLE different (slightly diff snare gate profile),but overall a nice cob facsimile rim at a reasonable price. Also,the drum looks GREAT in silver ! Dave

That is absolutely correct regarding the "chocolate milk" interiors and the clear interiors as Slingerland started phasing OUT the "chocolate milk" stained interiors after only about a year and a half. However!... it took a while to go through all the "stained" shells, and with the badge style Mark chose.. ( black/gold ) .. his interior would have been one of the stained ones. But that's just a "stickler vintage geek" comment speaking... LOL! ... it doesn't matter one bit as Mark's shell is BEAUTIFUL a la natural. Indeed! The "clear" interiors started showing with the black/silver badge, most certainly mid/late 1970 and up, although there are drums out there that still have the "stain" AND the black/silver badge. Typical Slingerland!

Thanks for all the positive comments! Stayed up late last night to complete the drum. It turned out great! I borrowed the COB hoops and heads from my 1967 Artist snare drum, also in Sparkling Silver Pearl! Took pictures this morning for all to see.You should be able to see the cutout from the Zoomatic, to be able to clear the top hoop. This was done for me by a friend who owns a custom metal fabrication shop. Came out great!Yeah, you can also see some "gunk" on one the lug nuts next to the Zoomatic. I still need to polish all these parts. Just wanted to get the drum together and see how it looked. I also have the shorter lug nuts which barely protrude from the lug and may consider using those.Well, I bit the bullet and just ordered the COB Stick Choppers to adorn my drum. Also ordered a set of German wires, which should be lower sounding than the wires currently on my drum, which are too bright sounding.I'm very pleased with my custom BR 4x14. It's a drum I always wanted to try out, but not able to afford the real thing!Mark

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL and as close to perfection as one could get! Course I wouldn't expect anything LESS than that from you! I have no doubt it will play/sound every bit as great as it looks!

Thanks so much for the positive comments... and those from everyone else who have replied about my drum!

I do have a slightly uneasy feeling about not being "politically correct" with the use of the chocolate milk interior. Still, I realized that this is more of a tribute drum and was subject to a few changes. I actually think the drum looks very good with the COB "rim shot" hoops, but really want to put them back on my Artist snare drum. I'm hoping the new Stick Choppers will look reasonably close to actual Slingerland hoops!

After installing the Zoomatic last night, I was unable to get a full drop of the wires and the only way to accomplish this was to readjust the Zoomatic. I finally noticed that the slide piece in the Zoomatic was bent. Since you can't actually remove this piece without removing the knob, I actually found a way to get a small C clamp to hold slide and then bend it back straight. The Zoomatic now functions perfectly and you can go from snare sound to tom sound with the flick of the lever! What's also nice about a perfectly adjusted Zoomatic is that it doesn't take much outward tension to get the drum to sound great! I made my own "Slingerland-style" tape straps which should not stretch much and alter the angle of the Zoomatic.

I'm just really pleased with how my BR turned out! I played it a bit and it sounds very good!

Mark that turned out nice~! It's a real beauty. Stick choppers will be fun also! Your bearing edges look 30* to me in the pics. I could be wrong though. :) Anyway enjoy the drum~! I'd love to make something like this one day too.

Thanks for the compliments! Glad to hear that you feel the edges are 30 degrees. Honestly, I was expecting more of a round-over, followed by a 30 degree dip in the edge. This is how it shows at the drummaker website. Regardless, the drums sounds really nice!
