A question... are these Ludwig cases something that you guys have any interest in? It's the case that student snares were carried in, in this instance an Acrolite. The case is in 100% working order, and still carries the music store label. I'd like to swap it for a 13" or 12" padded tom case. Any input appreciated.... I'd like to know if it's worth anything. BTW snare not included but I could find the original stand that was in it...

Keith,

Just my :2Cents:, but what you're looking for in trade sounds reasonable to me (although I can't help you out at this time). I've got three or four of these types of cases, however, and have never had much luck moving them. There do seem to be a lot of them available.

Yours does seem to be in really good shape, which is a plus.

Those Luddy cases are hard to ship!

Try to find a box that fits one...you will be looking for a while!

That's where good ole' "creative engineering" comes in!

Over the last two summers we've installed a "Smartboard" in almost every classroom in our school district (3 buildings). Will finish up this summer, with about 10 more going in. I've saved the side panels from all of those boxes -- which amounts to about a 4' by 6' sheet of cardboard. Using a tape measure, straight edge, square and utility knife I've hand-crafted so many odd and large size boxes I couldn't even count them all!!

I thought about getting one for my Supra, but, I don't see any padding, seems like it would be hard on the drum?

Surrounded by drummers here! (I am a guitarist.)

i've shipped cases just on their own. tape it uip, label it, and let it rip. or do as mentioned above and get some cardboard or packing paper to wrap it up if the buyer is concerned about the case.

weasel, I've successfully installed foam inside of fiber cases with 3M spray mount. I think it should adhere to plastic well too.

They're made of molded plastic, which means it will give a little when necessary. They also hold an Acro or a Supra fairly solid, so the drum's not going to be sliding around much on the inside.

I do think adding foam is always a good idea, however...

Not that I travel anymore, but I have one of these cases that I use for my throne seat. It's one of Ludwig's oversized, thicker seats that came standard on their "pnuematic" throne of the early 70s. It fits in there pretty good!

Thanks Bill, Matt, Blair... as to shipping, wrap in cardboard pieces and use a lot of strapping tape as you go.

Weasel... these cases were indestructible, thousands of little kids wrestled these things to school and home day in and day out without damaging their Luddies. When it does wear out it makes a dandy saucer for sliding on a good snow hill ;)

But yes, a little foam would be a good thing.

Just saw this and can testify to the near indestructible nature of these cases.

As an 8-11 year old I lugged one back and forth to school a couple days a week for several years. Dragged it down hallways and across concrete, used it as a seat waiting for the bus, etc. Hahah. The only difference was mine (and the drum in it) was a Pearl. If only I had been assigned an Acrolite... Then my first kit probably would have been a Rocker instead of an Export...
